We're looking for Pediatric Champions

And we're paying for your training and time!

The State Expert Panel on pediatric Preparedness, identified some gaps in Emergency Preparedness where our Pediatric population is involved.  These gaps create risks in being able to respond to their needs.

We are looking to have a Pediatric Champion in each Ambulance and

First Responder service within the region.

AND WE WILL PAY FOR YOUR TRAINING!

The "Pediatric Champion" is not intended to be an expert in pediatric issues, but someone who is willing to:

¨      Serve as a resource to is/her service regarding pediatric emergency care issues

¨      Champion pediatric issues as plans and budgets are discussed at the service

¨      Successfully complete PEPP training (Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals

What is the criteria for being a "Pediatric Champion"??

¨      Two or more years of service in an EMS or First Responder service

¨      Member of a licensed EMS service or a certified First Responder service

¨      Completion of EMT-Basic or the First Responder course

¨      Interest in pediatric emergency care issues

We will pay for up to two people per service to take the PEPP Course and reimburse for books, tuition, and hours in class.  That's a pretty good deal.

Emergency Medical Services and First Responder “Pediatric Champion”

During a mass casualty incident, it is recognized that EMS personnel and First Responders and hospitals will be responsible for assessing, triaging and treating critically ill or injured pediatric patients. Various surveys and assessments have demonstrated that there has been limited attention to the specific needs of the pediatric population and their families in emergency preparedness initiatives. This preparedness gap has been recognized by the State Expert Panel on Pediatric Preparedness, sponsored by the Wisconsin Division of Public Health, Hospital Disaster Preparedness Program.

The State Expert Panel has recognized certain key issues that need to be addressed to better prepare pre-hospital providers to respond to mass casualty incidents, which will assuredly involve pediatric patients:

The goal of the Expert Panel is to assist in providing these resources so that there is a consistent approach to the assessment, triage, treatment and transfer of pediatric patients in the State of Wisconsin. One facet of this voluntary program is the identification and training of a “Pediatric Champion” at each certified EMS and First Responder service.
