LSRTAC Project Coordinator Report

WITC Conference at Telemark Lodge in Cable, WI was a huge success.  Lake Superior RTAC had an exhibit table with LSRTAC labels, free information, and a drawing for an emergency flashlight.

Discussion regarding projects the LSRTAC can coordinate, sponsor, or institute in the region for injury prevention.  Public and Provider educational needs will be addressed.

Lake Superior RTAC will pay membership fees so all LSRTAC members can order EMS supplies from the NCEMSC (North Central EMS Cooperative) at a significant savings.  Dan Diamon and/or Jan Victorson will work out the details and report back to the membership.

Communications Pilot Project

Communications Interoperability Pilot Project (OJA) continues for the Lake Superior RTAC.  The purpose is to establish standardized radio frequencies for specific purposes to enhance communications in a disaster.  The committee is working with Paul Wittkamp from the State.  OJA grant funds are involved with some help from HRSA.  Ashland, Bayfield, and Douglas counties are beginning to receive their materials and radios.  All agencies taking part in this funding need to have their expenses turned in prior to July 10, 2007 so they can be processed in time to meet federal deadlines.  Dan Diamon can answer questions and assist with this process.

Education

LSRTAC is looking at injury prevention topics and needs for the providers and the public within our region.

¨      PEPP Training.  There have been some classes and more are scheduled through WITC Ashland this spring and fall.

¨      EMS Peds Champion from each ambulance service

¨      TOPIC Course held in Madison 2/9/07 with several members attending.  Have not received any feedback from those attending.  It explains the PI process in detail with outcomes and "loop closure".  It is an excellent course that relates processes to trauma registry along with structured guidelines for implementing a Performance Improvement Plan.

¨      Public Education in Schools:  Helmets, bicycle safety, car seat safety, Think First Program

¨      Hospitals are encouraged to become more involved in Wisconsin:  Ashland, Spooner, Hayward, Grandview (Ironwood, MI).  Dan Diamon will coordinate a group to work on this.

Trauma Registry Training

Debi Peters and Wayne Street are coordinating two free workshops in Eau Claire to assist the new hospital trauma registry personnel with their jobs.  The dates are March 7 and May 14, 2007 from 1-4 PM.  Contact Tammi Hovde to register at 715-760-1303 or tammihovde@yahoo.com

Strategic Planning

Lake Superior RTAC 5 - year Operational Plan goes through 2007.  We need to look at future goals and objectives along with future funding and what priorities to spend our money on.  Some suggestions:

¨      Pick 2 projects to perform for the next year

¨      Certifying First Responders across the LSRTAC region

¨      Guidelines/courses for dispatchers

¨      Survey on website for how to spend money

¨      Quick survey on website for other issues

Educational Presentation Performance Improvement

Linda Vogel gave an excellent presentation on the overview and foundations for setting up Performance Improvement.  It was well received by the audience present.  Baseline information was given followed by examples that the audience could relate to.  There was a good discussion and the information can be used as we follow State Guidelines for setting up our Regional Performance Improvement Committee and processes.
