Lake Superior RTAC Meeting
Thursday August 24, 2006
Cable Community Centre
1-4 PM
Let’s start talking about what’s going on at the Lake Superior RTAC. Please forgive the format of the newsletter, we’re finding a format that works. In months past, not everyone was able to open the newsletter correctly which made It hard to track where the sentences ended. Thanks for bearing with us as we work this through.
You’ve seen the agenda so we can be brief. Maybe some background material on what we are going to talk about will help to set the stage.
Executive Council Nominations / Elections
We will finally fill out the Executive Council with the addition of one more person. Please bring your good ideas and see Merrilee’s notes attached with the agenda.
Website Update
Have you looked at the website lately? It looks great! www.lsrtac.com We’re getting great feedback and need more. I would like to put a call out for pictures to use on the site. Talk with your Marketing people to make sure the picture meet their criteria. Hospitals and Trauma Care would be great. Maybe we can rotate some pictures through the site. Also if you have information to post on the site, upcoming events, training… please forward it to me!

Information from State Meetings.
Site Reviews Workshops
We need to hold two workshops before the end of the year having to do with site reviews. We have been invited to work with both the West Central RTAC and the NC RTAC to accomplish that. Lynn Sears (U of M) and Wayne Street (Eau Claire) have expressed an interest in helping pull this off. Maybe the meetings could be in Eau Claire or Rice Lake…
Regional "PI" Process
We’re going to need to do some PI at our meetings a part of the Statewide Trauma Plan. We should start talking now to see what we want the committee to be and how we will pull this off. STAC will be giving guidance as to what we need to look at for PI, we will need to pull the trigger.
Future Funding
We wanted to talk a bit about future funding. At some point the formula may change for funds from the state and we could be looking for some more sources for the funding. Some have suggested that we could form a 501(c) 3 to make us more eligible for outside grants. This is a starting point for the process to see where it could go. Think about it.
EMS Communications Interoperability Pilot Project
Great news for EMS in NW WI. We have been awarded funding for pilot project in EMS interoperability. Funds will be used for meeting a match in funding for EMS units that are taking part in the OJA 2006 Communications grant.
We will even meet the match for the MARC II Repeaters that all agencies will use when there is an incident in the region. The repeaters are a common channel that all responders can us to communicate with each other.
We will work with area helicopter services to move them on to a new scene frequency that has been identified for the State of WI.
We will help to reprogram EMS Radios with the new EMS mutual aid frequencies.
We will work with Gold Cross Duluth and Eau Claire to move them off of their current dispatch frequency which has been identified as EMS-C, a new EMS frequency in WI.
Finally we will work to identify how the new frequencies will be used, and we hope to come up with some marketing tools to pull this off and share what we learn with the rest of the state.
Not bad!
